Enrollment issues are usually a daily occurrence. They are usually emergent issues to add new members or add members back on as a COBRA participant.
Inevitably, a member needs a prescription for a sick child on a Friday before a holiday. We have handled many of these situations and had the ability to have normal channels over ridden to receive an ID number on an emergency basis. On those occasions that an ID number could not be issued emergently, we would call the pharmacy to request a small supply of the prescription or ask if the member could pay for the prescription on a credit and once the ID number was issued we would call with the ID number so that the member’s credit card could be credited. On other occasions if the prescription was too costly for the member to charge on a personal credit card, we use our company credit card and then made arrangements from the pharmacy to be reimbursed.
One very busy client had waited to the last minute to choose a plan at their renewal. Since the paperwork was delayed the new ID cards were not going to be available until after the effective date. We decided to contact the carrier for a listing of the ID numbers. we recommended to our client that we would email each employee directly with their ID number as well as the ID numbers for dependents. Everyone then had their ID number in time for the new effective date.
In this instance, the employees were so happy that they received their ID cards and the employer was saved very valuable time by having me email all employees personally.
